Internship at Siemens Malaysia
Praktikum bei Siemens Malaysia
From November 2004 - May 2005 I took part on the Internship Program from Siemens Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. It was a very nice experience, because of what I learned in Siemens, and also because of the multi cultural life in Malaysia. Even losing 2 semester on my study is worth it compared with the experiece I gained during the 7 months internship.

The Company Situation
Siemens has several offices in Malaysia, but the headquathers is located in Petaling Jaya, the city on the ourskirt of Kuala Lumpur. The language used is mainly english, but because of the multi ethnic employee, for the daily conversation I heard a lot of Bahasa Melayu, Mandarin, Cantonese and Tamil. Not forgotten, because Siemens is from Germany, you can find alot of germans, and for sure they sometimes speak german too. There are alot of Interns (deutsch: Praktikanten) in Siemens, and they come from different country. When I was there, there were interns from Argentina, Germany, Indonesia (me), Holland and the local interns from Malaysia.
Course of Study
As far as I know, most of the interns study following subjects: - Economics - Electrical or Mechanical Engineering - Computer Science See their website, if you want to see more information. For students who wants to make their final thesis (deutsch : Diplomarbeit, o.ä.), you might find some difficulties, because normally they don't give any particular project for the internship.
My Task
On my case, because of my Computer Science background, I was located under the Corporate Information Office Department. CIO is the department which takes care of the whole internal IT Infrastructure for Siemens Malaysia Offices. My Task was developing 2 different web-based applications, based on the Microsoft programming language. It was very interesting, since I also needed to discuss and work together with different people from different department. So I learned a lot of things from the IT side and also from the Project Management side.
Living in Kuala Lumpur
There are a lot of interesting places, activities, foods, which you can discover in Kuala Lumpur. Don't be confuse with the office location which is in Petaling Jaya (PJ), because the Siemens Office is just 20 minutes driving from the downtown of Kuala Lumpur. You can even easily use public transportation to reach KL. For further information, you can see the Weblog from Jürgen Hösch, who was also an intern in Siemens Malaysia. Just scroll back to the month May until October to see his wonderful journey in Malaysia.
Hi bang Hardi,
Pertanyaan gw;
1.Apa emang ga ada interview or step2 lain nya ya, atau langsung di terima begitu saja? (klo boleh share, waktu abang dulu gmn?)
2.Terus apa yg hrs gw lakukan skrng ya? (nunggu sj/ rajin2 tlp k siemens?)
Mohon pencerahannya, and makasih untuk waktu nya
success :)
Regards,
Prima
hey I want your advice on this. I had applied for summer internship in Siemens and they have agreed to send the official
letter but they haven't asked for any of the documents like
my transcript, recommendations from professors or bonafide certificate or any other document from institute where I am studying. Doesn't that seem a little bit suspicious?
If they accept you without asking any proof from you, which is indeed unusual, what's the matter then?
If you are still unsure, you still can call them and ask anything you want. And at the end, before you sign the contract, you still can cancel your application.
So instead to worry, try to get the information you need.
Thanks for the reply. Well, they have asked for the documents.
One thing I want to know is that the allowance I am getting(1600RM)is sufficient for a month or not.
For living is surely enough...
more than enough for the locals actually...
In my case in 2005, my room cost 400RM.
For eating, transport, etc. I spent around 800RM.
I could save some money for travelling for sure.
Btw, where are you from?
I am from New Delhi, India.
I have been accepted as intern by the IADT division. Do I have
a choice in the work allotment because I don't want a project
related to electric drives(motors, generators) to be given?
I want to work in the industrial communication area.
So, please tell me what was the criteria of work allotment
during your internship ?
Hmm...
I don't know.
Basically you can ask. Choice is not always available.
In my case, there was 1 main project, which I had to do, no choice. And around the end on my contract, there were another 2 side projects, that I also took part.
Good luck. In general, the company is great, the city is also good. So just join and enjoy it. :-)
is it same as for the local?
how about the working hours?
from monday-saturday or monday-friday?
and how was the assignment/project?is it tough?
At that time, what are the requirement to be selected?
Did you went to interview?
I already ask by email to Siemens HR department.
But they can't give details because they said,
the requirement are based on the division, and they don't know.
I am currently seeking for the internship and Siemens is in the list ;)
Hi,
it was different for local.
Working hours are just normal like the other employee...
The other standard questions cannot be answered specifically.
All depend on the openings, the supervisor and also the HR person who processes your application.
So all I can say, just try your LUCK...
Everything is just a matter of the right application for the right internship opening on the right time... which no one can plan...
in 2005 and for foreigners, it was 800 RM/month and another 800 RM for accomodation.
hye..i just wondering.
did u get the allowance from siemens?
if so, how much?
